United Coloring Contest Winners 2009
In May and June, third grade students from Auburn, Bridgton area and Lewiston elementary schools participated in United Ambulance Service’s Fifth Annual Coloring Contest. The contest was developed in efforts to celebrate National EMS Week.
The contest involved 274 students from East Auburn Community, Denmark Elementary, Martel, McMahon, Montello, Park Avenue, Pettingill, Sherwood Heights and Walton Elementary Schools.
Students were asked to draw a portrait based on “What they think of” when they hear the words: EMS (Emergency Medical Services); EMT (Emergency Medical Technician); Paramedic; United Ambulance and hospital.
All the portraits that were submitted to United Ambulance Service were displayed for employees, who picked the “Top Five”, as well as five portraits that would receive “Participation Awards”. Employees indicated that the process was difficult as all the portraits displayed artistic qualities that were closely related to the key words.
The “Top Five Portraits” for Auburn/Lewiston schools were: First, Searra Gauthier, Montello School; Second, Katelyn Szustak, Martel School; Third, Evy Bilodeau, Sherwood Heights School; Fourth, Amanda DeMatteo, Park Ave. School and Fifth, Evan Cox, Pettingill School.
“Participation Awards” were given to: Isaac Dumont, Walton School; Brooke Smiley, McMahon School; Fiona McCloskey, Sherwood Heights School; Jaidon Dumont, Walton School; and an anonymous third grade student from Martel School.
The “Top Three Portraits” for the Bridgton area were: First, Abigail Burnelll; Second, Finn Lane and Third, Cory Covill, from Denmark Elementary School. The students were each given gift cards to Staples.
All the portraits, with the exception of those listed above, were donated to area nursing facilities so they could be shared with the residents.
