The United Ambulance Communications Center is located in our Central Station and staffed by Emergency Medical Dispatchers 24 hours a day. All United Ambulance Dispatchers are EMD certified by Priority Dispatch and licensed by the State of Maine. We use Priority Dispatch’s ProQA EMD software to assist in processing and prioritizing any emergency call we receive. This is a tool to determine responses for medical emergencies and is also used to provide callers with necessary “Pre-Arrival Instructions” that can be performed prior to the arrival of the ambulance.
United Ambulance Communications Center was the first and currently only private company to become a state certified EMD Center. In 2012 we handled over 19,000 EMS calls for both emergencies and routine transfers.
Our Communications Center uses Zoll’s RescueNet Dispatch CAD System and is integrated with ZOLL’s ePCR Suite and Navigator System that uses AVL (Ambulance Vehicle Locator) technology ensuring the most appropriate vehicle is dispatched to every emergency call. These systems also allow us to monitor our response times, on-time performance and unit utilization as part of our Performance Improvement Process.
