First Aid & CPR Certification Options

American Heart Association (AHA) Certification Options

Blended Learning:  Our most popular option for certification.  Each certification listed below is offered as a Blended Learning course.  This is the quickest option to receive certification.  Each person needing certification must complete their own online course.  Purchase the online course through the AHA elearning website, complete all online course modules, to include the course evaluation, forward your course completion certificate to martela@unitedambulance.net and request to schedule an in-person skills session.  Upon successful completion of the skills session, the participant will be issued an ecard.  

Scheduled skills sessions are held at United Training Center, 338 East Ave., Lewiston.  Park in the student parking lot, furthest lot in the rear of the property.  Enter the two story John Whittier Education Building through the glass-front door, and follow the signs to the Education Department

Blended Learning Skills Session Pricing:
Heartsaver $75 per person
Basic Life Support $50 per person

Heartsaver CPR/AED: This course is designed for those needing  CPR/AED certification.  This course offers layperson CPR and AED certification for the Adult.  Optional modules for Child and Infant CPR and AED certification are available.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course. 
 
Heartsaver First Aid: This course is designed for those needing First Aid certification.  First Aid modules are geared toward the adult victim.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course. 

Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED Combo: This course is designed for those needing both First Aid and CPR/AED certification.  This course offers layperson CPR and AED certification for the Adult.  Optional modules for Child and Infant CPR and AED certification are offered.  First Aid modules are geared toward the adult victim.  Select the "Total" option for an OSHA compliant certification.  This course is typically required for coaches and those who transport through Modivcare transportation services.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course. 

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED: This course is designed for those needing both First Aid and CPR/AED certification for children.  This course offers layperson CPR and AED certification for the Child and Infant.  An optional module for Adult CPR and AED certification is offered.  First Aid modules are geared toward child related illnesses, injuries, and prevention.  This course is perfect for daycare providers and those who work with children.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course.
 
Basic Life Support (BLS): This course is designed for the healthcare provider.  This course offers CPR and AED certification for the Adult, Child and Infant.  Click here to view and/or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course.

In-Person Classes: UTC does not currently hold regularly scheduled in-person CPR classes.  In-person classes are typically scheduled about two months out, based on instructor availability.  For more information and pricing, please call 207-782-8414  x239.  UTC charges an additional travel fee for any off-site Skills Sessions or in-person classes.

Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) Course Options - Lewiston

Course Schedule & Requirements

To provide a comprehensive experience, this certification is broken into two focused sessions:

  • Day 1 | The Strategy (Lecture): 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

       Dive into the theory, safety mechanics, and legal standards of emergency         response.

  • Day 2 | The Skills (Driving): Starting at 9:00 AM

       Put your knowledge to the test behind the wheel. Your specific driving               time slot will be assigned by the instructor during the Day 1 session.

 

Essential Prerequisites

Before you gear up, please ensure you meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old

  • Credentials: Must hold a valid Driver’s License

  • State Compliance: This course is fully recognized and meets all State of Maine requirements for ambulance operation

  • To ensure every student gets personalized instruction and maximum "behind-the-wheel" time, we have strictly limited the number of participants.

Hybrid Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) Course - Lewiston

Course Format & Requirements: Maximize your time with our flexible hybrid learning model. This certification combines self-paced online education with a single, intensive day of practical application.

 

Phase 1 | The Online Component (Self-Paced): The online course modules will be issued to the student by the United Training Center once payment for the course has been received. Dive into pediatric physiology, the Pediatric Assessment Triangle, and emergency theory through interactive media at your own pace before the skills day.

 

Phase 2 | The Skills (In-Person): 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Join us at the training center for a full day of hands-on simulation. This session focuses exclusively on high-fidelity scenarios, advanced airway management, and critical interventions to ensure you are ready for real-world pediatric emergencies.

Required Course Materials: To be fully prepared for the course, all students are required to purchase their own textbook in advance. Please ensure you have the following edition before your scheduled skills day:

  • Credentials: Must hold a current professional medical license (e.g., EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, Nurse, or Physician).

  • Compliance: This course is CAPCE-accredited and recognized for continuing education credits for EMS providers.

Emergency Medical Assistance

Hybrid Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Course - Lewiston

Course Format & Requirements: Optimize your training with the PHTLS hybrid learning model. This gold-standard trauma certification combines comprehensive online didactic learning with a single, intensive day of practical skills application.

 

Phase 1 | The Online Component (Self-Paced): The online course modules will be issued to the student by the United Training Center once payment for the course has been received. This interactive portion covers the latest evidence-based trauma care, including multi-system trauma management, hemorrhage control, and the physics of trauma.

 

Phase 2 | The Skills (In-Person): 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Join us at the training center for a full day of hands-on trauma simulations. This session focuses on critical skills such as rapid extrication, advanced airway management, and spinal motion restriction, all designed to sharpen the critical thinking required for high-pressure scene management.

ACLS Refresher Course Options - Lewiston

Course Format & Requirements: Refresh your expertise in advanced resuscitation with our ACLS renewal program. This course is designed for healthcare professionals who need to maintain their certification through high-intensity review and hands-on skills verification.

 

Phase 1 | Pre-Course Preparation (Self-Paced): Before attending the in-person session, all students must complete the mandatory AHA ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment. You are required to pass this assessment with a minimum score of 70%. This ensures you are prepared for the rhythm recognition and pharmacology portions of the course. Additionally, you must locate and provide a copy of your current or recently expired AHA ACLS eCard.

 

Phase 2 | The Skills (In-Person): 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM PM Join us at the training center for a full day of hands-on simulation. This session focuses on high-performance team dynamics, advanced airway management, and Megacode testing, all designed to sharpen the clinical judgment required for life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies.

Required Course Materials: To be fully prepared for the course, all students are required to have access to the current provider manual. Please ensure you have the 2025 Guidelines edition before your scheduled skills day:
