First Aid & CPR Certification Options

American Heart Association (AHA) Certification Options

Blended Learning:  Our most popular option for certification.  Each certification listed below is offered as a Blended Learning course.  This is the quickest option to receive certification.  Each person needing certification must complete their own online course.  Purchase the online course through the AHA elearning website, complete all online course modules, to include the course evaluation, forward your course completion certificate to martela@unitedambulance.net and request to schedule an in-person skills session.  Upon successful completion of the skills session, the participant will be issued an ecard.  

Scheduled skills sessions are held at United Training Center, 338 East Ave., Lewiston.  Park in the student parking lot, furthest lot in the rear of the property.  Enter the two story John Whittier Education Building through the glass-front door, and follow the signs to the Education Department

Heartsaver CPR/AED: This course is designed for those needing  CPR/AED certification.  This course offers layperson CPR and AED certification for the Adult.  Optional modules for Child and Infant CPR and AED certification are available.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course. 
 
Heartsaver First Aid: This course is designed for those needing First Aid certification.  First Aid modules are geared toward the adult victim.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course. 

Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED Combo: This course is designed for those needing both First Aid and CPR/AED certification.  This course offers layperson CPR and AED certification for the Adult.  Optional modules for Child and Infant CPR and AED certification are offered.  First Aid modules are geared toward the adult victim.  Select the "Total" option for an OSHA compliant certification.  This course is typically required for coaches and those who transport through Modivcare transportation services.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course. 

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED: This course is designed for those needing both First Aid and CPR/AED certification for children. 
 This course offers layperson CPR and AED certification for the Child and Infant.  An optional module for Adult CPR and AED certification is offered.  First Aid modules are geared toward child related illnesses, injuries, and prevention.  This course is perfect for daycare providers and those who work with children.  Click here to view and or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course.
 
Basic Life Support (BLS): This course is designed for the healthcare provider.  This course offers CPR and AED certification for the Adult, Child and Infant.  Click here to view and/or purchase the Blended Learning online portion for this course.

In-Person Classes: UTC does not currently hold regularly scheduled in-person CPR classes.  In-person classes are typically scheduled about two months out, based on instructor availability.  For more information and pricing, please call 207-782-8414  x239.  UTC charges an additional travel fee for any off-site Skills Sessions or in-person classes.

Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) Course Options - Lewiston

Course Schedule & Requirements

To provide a comprehensive experience, this certification is broken into two focused sessions:

  • Day 1 | The Strategy (Lecture): 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

       Dive into the theory, safety mechanics, and legal standards of emergency         response.

  • Day 2 | The Skills (Driving): Starting at 9:00 AM

       Put your knowledge to the test behind the wheel. Your specific driving               time slot will be assigned by the instructor during the Day 1 session.

 

Essential Prerequisites

Before you gear up, please ensure you meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old

  • Credentials: Must hold a valid Driver’s License

  • State Compliance: This course is fully recognized and meets all State of Maine requirements for ambulance operation

  • To ensure every student gets personalized instruction and maximum "behind-the-wheel" time, we have strictly limited the number of participants.

Cost: $200.00 per student. Students will be invoiced after registering for the program. The invoice will be sent directly to the email address students registered with. The course cost is due in full before the first day of the course.

Accelerated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Summer Blended Learning Program- Lewiston 

Course Overview and Commitment

This is a very fast-paced course, utilizing an online platform to enhance learning and classroom activities. This course requires the student to be self-directed and complete reading assignments and online coursework before class each week. A laptop is required and must be brought to class each day.  Mornings will consist of a lecture, and afternoons will consist of multiple labs.

  • Format: Blended accelerated learning requires extensive self-directed study and online work before each class. In-class time focuses on practical skills training.

  • Time Commitment: Students can expect to spend a minimum of 16-18 hours each week at home, completing the required reading, assignments, and skills documentation.

  • Requirements: A laptop/tablet is required and must be brought to every class.

  • Accreditation: United's Education Division is a Maine-EMS approved Training Center.

  • United Training Center does not issue college credit for this program.  College credit may be achieved through articulation agreements.  Please contact us for more information.

Tuition and Fees

The Total Course Cost is $1,800. This fee includes access to the online course platform, the online Skills Portfolio platform, the online testing platform, and the required eTextbook.

Payment Schedule:

  1. Non-Refundable Course Deposit: A deposit of $500 must be paid by June 1st, 2026. Paying this deposit is the only way to guarantee your place in this course. This deposit is non-refundable.

  2. Remaining Tuition: The remaining tuition of $1300 is due by June 15th, 2026.

Your course invoice will be emailed to the email address you provided on your registration form, but only after you confirm your enrollment by replying to your acceptance email.

Additional Costs:

  • The course does not include the fees for the National Registry EMT Written Exam or the Maine licensing fees.

  • The required textbook is Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured 12 Ed (ISBN: 9781284204308). While the eText is included, if you prefer a physical copy of the text, you must purchase it separately.

Refund Policy:

  • The $500 Course Deposit is non-refundable. Tuition refunds are issued in the event of course cancellation or unenrollment before the “Official Start Date.”

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Course - Lewiston  

Course Overview and Commitment
This fast-paced, blended learning program is designed to prepare currently licensed EMTs for the National Registry Advanced EMT Written Exam. The curriculum uses an online platform to complement classroom activities, which are structured with lectures in the morning and hands-on lab work in the afternoon.
Prerequisite: Students MUST be licensed at the EMT level to start this course.

  • Format: Blended learning requires extensive self-directed study and online work prior to each class. In-class time focuses on practical skills training.

  • Time Commitment: Students must commit a minimum of 16-18 hours per week at home for reading, assignments, and skills documentation.

  • Requirements: A laptop/tablet is required and must be brought to every class.

Clinical Rotations

Clinical rotations will run concurrently with the course.

  • Students must provide proof of required immunizations prior to starting clinical rotations.

  • A minimum of 150 clinical hours are required.

  • You will be given an additional 60 days after the last day of class to finish up any incomplete clinical experiences. Additional clinical time may be required to complete the clinical objectives.

This is a comprehensive, blended learning course designed for licensed EMTs seeking Paramedic certification. The educational format includes both online and classroom learning.

Format: Blended learning requires both online and classroom participation. A laptop with internet access are required and must be brought to every class.

Prerequisites: You must be a licensed EMT to be eligible. A college-level Anatomy & Physiology course (no lab required) with a grade of "C" or better is required prior to the start of the course. An official transcript must be submitted with your application. (Some online A&P courses are accepted; contact us for details).

Requirements: Registration is limited. Note that registering for both Paramedic courses simultaneously will put you at a disadvantage for acceptance. Advanced placement is not allowed.

Accreditation: The Paramedic Program at United Training Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

The Total Course Cost will be $15,350 (Tuition + Fees). This fee includes access to the online course platform, online Skills Portfolio platform, online testing platform, clinical platform, eText, two student polo shirts, and BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and PIFT certifications.

Payment Schedule:

  • Non-Refundable Application Fee: $250 due by July 27th, 2026

  • Non-Refundable Course Deposit: $1,500 due by September 7th, 2026

  • Remaining Tuition: $13,600 due by October 2nd, 2026

Additional Costs:

Application and Enrollment Process

  1. Register & Pay Fee: Pay the non-refundable application fee to receive your Application Packet no later than July 27th, 2026. 

  2. Submit Packet: Completed Application Packets must be submitted no later than July 27th, 2026.

  3. Interview: All candidates who submit a completed packet will be scheduled for an interview.

  4. Application Status: You will be notified of your status:

    • Accepted: You have been accepted into the program.

    • Waitlisted: You were interviewed but not currently accepted.

  5. Confirm Enrollment: The deposit is due by September 7th, 2026 to secure your seat.

 

Course Schedule (December 2026 - March 2028)

Attendance is expected for all scheduled sessions.

Clinical rotations run concurrent with the course; students have 60 days after the last day of class to complete clinical experiences.

Class Meetings: Thursdays with occasional Friday sessions.

Tuition and Fees

The Total Course Cost will be $12,700 (Tuition + Fees). This fee includes access to the online course platform, online Skills Portfolio platform, online testing platform, clinical platform, eText, two polo shirts, and BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and PIFT certifications.

Payment Schedule:

  • Non-Refundable Application Fee: $250 due by May 4th, 2026

  • Non-Refundable Course Deposit: $1,500 due by July 6th, 2026

  • Remaining Tuition: $10,950 due by July 31st, 2026

Additional Costs:

  • The course does not include fees for the National Registry Written Exam or Maine licensing fees.

  • The required textbook is Saunders Paramedic Textbook 6E (ISBN: 9781284277531). While the eText is included, if you prefer a physical copy, you must purchase it separately.

Refund Policy: The Application Fee and Course Deposit are non-refundable.

 

Application and Enrollment Process

  1. Register & Pay Fee: Pay the non-refundable application fee to receive your Application Packet no later than May 4th, 2026

  2. Submit Packet: Completed Application Packets must be submitted no later than May 4th, 2026.

  3. Interview: All candidates who submit a completed packet will be scheduled for an interview. 

  4. Application Status: You will be notified of your status by the end of May 2026:

    • Accepted: You have been accepted into the program.

    • Waitlisted: You were interviewed but not currently accepted.

  5. Confirm Enrollment: The deposit is due by July 6th, 2026 to secure your seat.

 

Course Schedule (September 2026 - June 2027)

Attendance is expected for all scheduled sessions.

Clinical rotations run concurrent with the course; students have 60 days after the last day of class to complete clinical experiences.

Class Meetings: Tuesdays with occasional Friday sessions.

Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to sit for the National Registry Written Exam.
